Tiger Woods British Open St Andrews

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods leads at the British Open at 12-under 204 in this yearís third major.  Tiger has a two shot lead over Jose Maria Olazabal going into the final round in St Andrews, Scotland. The conditions were warm and calm at the worldís oldest championship.

Tiger Woods, (age 29) the worldís top ranked player, had three bogies and four birdies. Both Colin Montgomerie and US Champion Retief Goosen trail by 3 shots (9-under 207).   Montgomerie is considered the local favorite after fellow countryman Seve Ballesteros withdrew. Tigerís lead was cut in half.

Woods told reporters ``I worked so hard to get back under par, the greens got so hard and the fairways had gotten harder.''   He is working towards his 10th championship and second of the year.  Woods won the Masterís Tournament for the fourth time in April.

He has never lost a major after leading through three rounds.  He hopes to be the first player since 1973, when Tom Weiskopf won this Championship after leading in every round.  Woods set a record 19 years ago with a score of 19-under par (269).  Todayís 71 score put him at 28th best after his early rounds of 66 and 67.
