Plastic surgery is no longer just
for Hollywood. Plastic surgery is at an all time high among the
masses of regular people as well.
Plastic surgery also called cosmetic
surgery, ranges from major surgical procedures to minimally-invasive
procedures like Botox injections. It is also important to consider
that the more complicated the operation, you will want the surgery in a
hospital setting. If you are having the operation in a clinic
setting it may or may not be up to code. You have a higher risk of
infection and complications. Infection is one of the risks anyone has
when going in for surgery.
The numbers of people that had
breast implants in 1992, according to a report published in 2004 by the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons, 32,607 had implants compared to 2004 with 252,915 people
having the procedure done. That is a 676%
increase. The only procedures that declined from the 1992 year and the
2004 year was nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) with a -5% less. The other
procedure that is on the decline is Dermabrasion with 19% less.
The largest volume of surgical procedures in 2004
were 269,968 for liposuction, followed by 252,915 people for breast augmentation.
Eyelid surgery is in 3rd place at 134,079 people. The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
procedure was 102,497 people. The facelift (rhytidectomy) was at 76,905
people.
The light duty procedures that are
considered minimally-invasive procedures are at an amazing number for
people getting Botox treatments. In 1992, Botox wasn’t around, but in 2002
– 2004 there is a huge increase. In 2002 there were 350,469 people that
had a Botox treatment. In 2004 there were 994,758 people that went for
the Botox injections.
Collagen injections are also gaining
in popularity. There were 112,053 people that had a collagen
treatment. There is also a Hyaluronic acid treatment that is relatively
a new treatment with 150,070 people having this procedure done in 2004.
In 1992 there were 457,561 people
that did some form of cosmetic procedures, compare this to 5,102,570
people in 2004 and you can see how much this industry has grown.
