Babel and Dreamgirls Win Big At Golden Globe Awards – Cars – The Queen – Borat – The Departed Take Awards - Sacha Cohen Wins

The movie “Babel” came out a winner at the Golden Globes Monday night. The film stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, as an American couple on vacation in the Morrocan desert when tragedy strikes. The holiday is shattered when Pitt’s wife is shot. “Babel” beat out “Bobby”, “The Departed”, “Little Children” and “The Queen”.

Helen Mirren and Forrest Whitaker won best Performance by an Actress and Actor. Mirren stars in “The Queen”, a tale about Queen Elizabeth after the death of Lady Dianna Spencer. Whitaker stars in “The Last King of Scotland”. Whitaker plays the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The story takes place as seen by his personal physician during the 1970s. He beat-out Will Smith in the “Pursuit of Happyness”.

The Golden Globes combines Musicals with Comedies and offers one award. The movie “Dreamgirls”, staring Jamie Fox, Beyoncé Knowles and Eddie Murphy won that award. This is a story about a trio of black female soul singers who cross-over into the pop charts during early 1960's. “Dreamgirls” was chosen over “Borat” and “Little Miss Sunshine”.

Sacha Cohen in “Borat” won best Actor honors for a Musical or Comedy. Cohen plays the Kazakh TV reporter named Borat, who is dispatched to the United States to report on the “greatest country in the world”. There have been several lawsuits swirling around this picture. Meryl Streep won best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in “The Devil Wears Prada”.

Dreamgirls won big with Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson walking away with Best Supporting honors. This could help solidify the movie’s Academy Award prospects. Murphy finally won a Globe after losing three times before.
