Microsoft has just opened up their Soapbox website for public beta testing. Soapbox will allow people to upload videos to the internet in almost all kinds of digital formats. Google has the most popular video upload site, YouTube, which they purchased for 1.65 billion dollars this past fall.

What might make Microsoft’s Soapbox better? It could gain popularity for being able to watch a video on the same screen as you are browsing for another video. YouTube does not have this feature yet.

Because it is still in beta there should still be some issue to be worked out. This website will give you another place to distribute your homespun videos, possibly gaining extra viewers from a new website with a little less competition.
