(Best Syndication) The local Coconuts night club was closed down Friday afternoon by the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) of California. Daily Press reporter Katherine Rosenberg says that the new owner will remodel the club and reopen on St. Patrick’s Day as a banquet facility.

Coconuts was closed down for 10 separate violations related to the sale of alcohol. One of the stranger violations was serving “poisonous liquor” after insects were found in the bottle.

But the closing has taught new co-owner Ronald Mather to take things in stride, according to Rosenberg. “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”, Mather said.

Ed Harris of the ABC met with Mather before suspending his license. He explained what was going to happen and then posted a notice on the front doors. Harris said that “When it was owned by Coconuts we began an investigation stemming from July 2006 and found 10 counts that range from minors being in the club and inappropriate management to selling contaminated alcohol that had either debris, bugs or insects in it. Someone could drink it and possibly get ill.”

The ABC both licenses establishments that sell liquor and check for compliance. Their goal is to protect the health and safety of patrons of these establishments. They have given San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Victorville a grant to ensure that Coconut and other facilities are in compliance. This investigation began with the Sheriffs department.
