Fort Irwin is a training facility for soldiers being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. Thousands of soldiers train at the NTC there before their deployment. “Here at the NTC we are the Direct Support Maintenance for all rotational Units and for every unit on post except for the 11th Cavalry Regiment. In Iraq we will be doing recovery operations and the direct support maintenance for all the units in our area of operation,” said CW2 David Hooker, Communications Electronics Technician and Battalion IMO.

The airport in Victorville may play a central role for civilian logistics in the coming decades. According to San Bernardino County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, improvements in the high desert infrastructure will lead to the airport becoming an “inland port”. The Logistics airport has the second longest runway on the west coast. The land around it is zoned for industrial and commercial uses.
