Fire Season Comes Early – Hesperia Fire Burns Quick For This Time Of Year - Pinon Hills MAC Meeting – April 5th 2007

McClintock and Kittleman

(Best Syndication) Don Slater was a little late for the Thursday meeting, but Sandy Young was able to get the meeting started. San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Rick McClintock and Captain Bob Kittleman were able to brief the meeting about the Hesperia fire.

McClintock gave Sandy and the other Committee members the annual report. After that he went on to tell the meeting that the Hesperia fire was a fast moving blaze. He said that the fire was burning at about 360 acres per hour, which was “phenomenal” for this time of year. There were great brush clearances though, so the fire was easier to fight.

Brush fire season is early this year. Kittleman said last month was busy and reminded everyone to keep the brush cleared from their homes. In Pinon Hills there were 35 emergencies, with most being medical emergencies (183 responses total). Car accidents accounted for 21 of those, and there were 3 fires. One Pinon Hills engine assisted in the Hesperia Fire.

Kittleman said that the Fire Department was having the pancake breakfast for the Explorers (7 – 11 AM). Next year they plan to put the Explorers through the National Fire Academy. They have also added a third seasonal firefighter to their engine company. This is early because the fire season is early this year.

Mike Adams said the CSA is moving along well. The Environmental Impact hurdle has been cleared and the election should be in November. Only three items will be on the ballot. It is unclear whether Pinon Hills MAC will continue in existence if the CSD is passed. The MAC (Municipal Advisory Council) is chosen by the County Supervisor.

Adams said there is a special Water District Rate Workshop meeting planned for April 26th at 7PM at the Phelan Community Center. A community meeting will occur about a month after that.
