(Best Syndication) The last speaker at the April 5th Pinon Hills Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) Meeting was Cal Trans Representative Dennis Green. He told those in attendance that the Highway 138 project is on schedule and may even be ahead of schedule.

Shoulder work between Beekley and the LA county line is taking place, and the widening project for the West Cajon Pass is taking place and that portion of the road will be closed for most of the summer. Dennis Green went on to talk about the signaling projects for the highway.

The funds are available for a signal at Highway 138 and the 2. In fact, Green said that conduit has already been laid. He said that there may even be an acceleration of that intersection project. This will mean that the poles for the stop lights will be brought on site ahead of schedule.

There is another stop light that has been funded for Oasis and Highway 138. This light many not be completed as part of the current project, according to Green. He did not have an exact date for the completion of that stop light. Green told the audience that he will try to get that information for us by the next MAC meeting.

Dennis Green said that Caltrans will be closing Highway 138 from Highway 2 to Hess Road in the West Cajon Pass from June 11th until September 11th. There will be no escorts this year because of injuries to flagmen last summer. Green said there were two flagmen intentionally hit by angry drivers. Another one was hit with a bb-gun pellet. The two drivers who are accused of hitting the flagmen were local residents, Green said.

When asked about the portion of Highway 138 from Pinon Hills to Palmdale, Green said that the plan is to make the whole portion from Palmdale to the 15 Freeway a four-lane road. Somewhere around 2010 Caltrans will be coming up with a final plan to make Highway 138 a complete four lane road.

Los Angeles County has separate plans for highway 138 that will be completed in the future. LA County is District 7 and San Bernardino in District 8. Green attended the LA County meeting last month in Lancaster. One portion up to Largo Vista has still not been funded.

Green said that the portion from the LA Country line to I-15 will cost about $100 million. He said that the LA county portion from Pinon Hills to Palmdale should cost an additional $50 million. The West Cajon Pass portion is expensive because of the hillsides and dirt removal.

Green said there will be a public meeting for Caltrans Highway 138 Pulbic Meeting on April 25th 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the Pinion Mesa Middle School.
