[Best Syndication] How come some people have stinky feet? Dr. Oz was on the Oprah TV show yesterday, and he explained a couple different reasons why our feet can stink, and what we can do about it.

Dr. Oz is a co-author with Michael D. Roizen of a series of popular selling books including, "You: On A Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management”, and, "YOU: The Owner's Manual: An Insider's Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger." Dr. Oz has stopped by again to answer questions from viewers on Oprah.

A 21 year old college student asked Dr. Oz, what she can do about her smelly feet. She has tried to wash and scrub them continually, but they continue to smell bad. Her roommates in college want her feet smelling sweet again.

Dr. Oz suggests that one cause for stinking feet is a bacterial or fungal infection, such as athlete’s foot. She was in Oprah's audience, and Dr. Oz had her show off her feet to see if she had a fungus or bacteria infection. He said that you should look in between your toes for any sign of infection, and on the bottom of your feet too. If you have a bacterial infection you will have tiny pin holes on the bottom of your feet or a white coating. She did not have a bacterial infection on her feet.

Dr. Oz explained that we have a quarter million sweat glands in each foot and we can sweat out 1 liter of sweat each day. The sweat from our feet can react with bacteria that are present on the surface to make the stinky smell. Sweat by itself does not stink as it is salt water.

He suggested that if you don’t have bacterial infection present, you can slow down your sweat on your feet by soaking them in tea bag water. The tea water will create a tannic acid that when soaked in it on a regular basis will dry out the feet and will slow down the sweating process. Less sweat results in less chances of having a smelly foot.

Looking up other options on the internet for treating sweaty feet, there is other ways to stop or slow the sweat, and also you can buy special deodorant for your feet. Some herbal remedies try to stop the sweat, while others use scented oils to cover up the smell.
