Paris Airshow Orders For Both Boeing and Airbus – Airlines Decide Whether to Purchase Dreamliner or Airbus 350

(Best Syndication) The Paris Airshow opened its doors Monday and already vendors are reporting big orders. The show boasts 550 companies and nearly 30 key prime contractors. It will last until Wednesday, but already Airbus and Boeing have landed some major deals with carriers.

Airbus has taken orders from US Airways, Qatar Airlines, Emirates, Jazeera Airways and Nouvelair for a series of planes, including its A350 and superjumbo A380 models. John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer predicted Monday that they will land more than 280 orders over the week.

There is fierce competition between Boeing and Airbus. Some airlines are trying to decide whether to go with the extrawide Airbus 350 or the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The Boeing Dreamliner can carry between 210 and 330 passengers, depending on the configuration. Some models can travel up to 8,500 miles.

The Airbus 350-800 can fly 270 passengers up to 8,300 miles. There are various configurations for the 350. The A350-900 will have a range of 8,100 miles, while the A350-1000 version can fly a distance of 8,000 miles with seating capacities for 314 and 350 passengers, respectively.

Both companies are competing for the freight business as well. The operating reach of the A350-900R version will provide ultra long-range performance, and a freighter configuration designated the A350-900F will complement the passenger models. The Dreamliner is expected to reach service in 2008. Although Airbus has orders for more than 100 350s, none have been delivered yet.
