Boy George – Culture Club singer begins Community Service Trash Duty

Boy George, 45, showed up to his first day of garbage duty this Monday in New York. The Manhattan judge told Boy George that the court-ordered community service would either be an “exercise in humiliation or in humility.”

This former 80’s singer from the Culture Club began the day getting issued a shovel, broom, plastic bags and gloves. His job is to go onto the city’s streets and clean up the trash for the next 5 days.

Boy George (George O’Dowd) got into trouble with the law when he called police with a phony report of a burglary in his lower Manhattan apartment this past October. Boy George was found with cocaine inside his apartment and has suffered with drug problems for many years.

Boy George failed to complete the plea deal from this October event and was issued a warrant for his arrest in June. After Boy George arrived in court ten days later, his warrant for arrest was called off. The judge did not excuse him from the community service and was assigned to clean up the streets of New York.

Boy George didn’t want to do the clean up community service, but instead wanted to complete a public service announcement or hold a fashion and makeup workshop. Or even to be a D.J. at an HIV/AIDS fundraiser. It seems like he wanted to do anything but pick up the trash.
