Mel Gibson – Sentenced for DUI

The actor Mel Gibson was sentenced today after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge according to Associated Press.

Gibson did not attend the arraignment that was originally scheduled for September 28th. His lawyer represented him and asked for an earlier court date. Gibson was charged with a DUI last month because he was driving with a blood alcohol level of .12 percent and also had an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Gibson was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Lawrence Mira for three years’ probations. According to US magazine, he will also have to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meeting five times a week for a time period of 4 ½ months. After this time, he will have to continue to attend these meetings for three times a week over a 7 ½ month time period.

He was also fined $1,300 and had his license restricted for 90 days. Gibson had voluntarily offered to complete public-service announcements in the regard to drinking and driving and also will willingly enter in to rehabilitation immediately.
