CNN Bathroom Break Conversation Airs Over President’s Speech – Kyra Phillips Talks on Open Microphone in Restroom

In what could have been a funny “Saturday Night Live” skit, CNN anchor woman, Kyra Phillips was overheard talking to a friend in the bathroom while on break. To add to the confusion, the anchor-woman’s remarks were broadcast over a live speech given by President Bush in New Orleans, one year after the Katrina disaster.

Phillips inadvertently left her microphone on when she took her break. Listeners could her talking about her husband, her brother and his wife, and her father. Although the conversation included a vulgar term dismissing most men, Phillips says she is "very lucky in that regard. My husband is handsome and he is genuinely a loving -- you know, no ego. You know what I'm saying? Just a really passionate, compassionate, great, great human being. And they exist. They do exist. They're hard to find. Yep. But they are out there.”

She did say something that will likely upset her sister in-law. Phillips told the person she was with that "brothers have to be, you know, protective. Except for mine. I've got to be protective of him." When asked what she meant, Philips replied “His wife is just a control freak." She really emphasized the word “freak”.

Finally one of her co-workers came into the restroom and said “Kyra”. Philips answered, "Yeah, baby?" He coworker told her: "Your mike is on. Turn it off. It's been on the air."

CNN anchor Daryn Kagan broke into what was supposed to be a heart-felt speech by the President to give a recap. Later Philips apologized to the viewer "for an issue we had with our mikes" and "for a little bit of an interruption there during the president." Later the network apologized to the Whitehouse.
