(Best Syndication) Apple announced that they will open their new iPhone and iPod up for developers to write programs. There should be a special software development kit available in February, which should "provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware (and) privacy attacks."

Previously the company has limited outside development to their web browser “Safari” which is used by their devices. Developers have complained that the company tried to control the iPhone too much. This decision could help the company in the long run and could make their devices even more popular. More than 1 million iPhones have been sold since it was released on June 29.
