According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, Cingular is planning to launch a cellphone-based music service. Cingular, a mobile phone provider, is expected to be partnering with companies including, Yahoo, Napster, and eMusic.

The partnership would make Cingular customers to download music files from the personal computers and then transfer them to their cellphones. This is an example of the multipurpose device that will be a wave of the future. Cellphones are replacing younger generation’s use of the wrist watch to tell time. Cellphones also have GPS tracking built in along with games, and digital photography capabilities.

Apple’s iPod has been rumored to be working on a new version of their digital music player that will include the use of a cellphone. At this time Cingular is not announcing the details of the service. Cingular expects to make a formal announcement in the next day or two.
