The 1995 OJ Simpson murder trial was one of the strangest court cases of all time, but now a new book may add to the surreal tail. One of America’s most popular sports superstars, Orenthal James Simpson was found not-guilty of killing his wife, Nicole Simpson, and her acquaintance Ron Goldman. What made the case incredibly bizarre was the fact that many outside the courtroom felt the ex-professional running back was guilty.

Simpson was later found liable in a civil trial for their stabbing death. After that case, he moved to Florida where it became almost impossible for anyone to collect. But did anyone ever suspect a book-deal was coming?

According to a report from the Associated Press, the publisher, Judith Reagan, says Simpson approached her about the book. In an eight-page statement released Friday, Regan said Simpson approached her with the idea for the book, “If I did it”, in which he hypothesizes how he would have committed the killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend.

In a statement titled “Why I did it”, Regan says "I didn't know what to expect when I got the call that the killer wanted to confess. But I knew one thing. I wanted the confession for my own selfish reasons and for the symbolism of that act. For me, it was personal." She said she “wanted a confession”, but didn’t get it.

Regan says she did not pay Simpson. "I contracted through a third party who owns the rights, and I was told the money would go to his children,” she said. “That much I could live with."

The book is published by ReganBooks which is an imprint to Harper Collins. It is scheduled for release November 30. Harper Collins is owned by Rupert Murdock’s News Corporation (News Corp). Fox, also owned by News Corp, is airing a two-part TV interview with Simpson on Nov. 27 and 29. Regan's imprint has also published books about convicted wife-killer Scott Peterson and a memoir by porn star Jenna Jameson.
