Whether you're building a new home or renovating your present home, you'll be giving a lot of consideration and thought to the type of style you want for the space and what the final design will look like. There are many different styles available today, with one appealing to you more than the other.
You may choose to use the services of an interior decorator or choose to do it yourself. Either way there are specific items in your home that will require the most details to get the renovating or design perfect. What are they? Let's go through them right now.
1. Interior doors
Doors are a large part of your home. Although the architectural design of your home many seem like the most important detail, your interior doors will greatly influence the style of your home. Whatever style you decide you want to go with for your home, make sure the interior doors fit that style. For instance, if your home were designed in an elegant or classical decor, you would want elegant doors with character such as you'd see in French doors. You would not get the same elegant feel with plain doors without this detailing.

2. Windows
In the same way that doors are important, so are the windows you choose as they often compliment the doors. Although many windows look the same, the panes may reflect a certain style of decor such as French, modern or whatever you choose. If you're going with a modern decor, you should look for modern windows, which may be quite minimalist. Because the windows are used to view the outdoors, they will be noticed and observed by you and any visitors.
3. Cornices, architraves, trimmings
As important as doors and windows are to the appearance of your home, the internal cornices, mouldings and skirting boards are just as important. Many couples that choose to build their own home to save money do an excellent job of building and designing it only to "peter out" and forget about the mouldings. Because it's such a small detail, they tend to put it off, thinking they can always get to it later. This little detail can really take away from the beauty of a door or window or pleasantly add to it. You'll find a large variety of trim work to go with any decorating style.
4. Flooring style
The type of flooring you choose will have a lot to do with the style you select for your rooms, but will also depend on your personal choice. The floor is one third of what people see when they enter the room, so you want to make the right choice. Whether it's carpet, ceramic tiles, marble or wood flooring, try to stay within the style you've chosen, keeping in mind that light colors will make rooms appear larger and darker colors will make them seem smaller and more sombre. Most stores that carry floor coverings will give you samples to take home to compare with the rooms.
5. Curtains
Window coverings such as curtains, valances or blinds will also add a lot to your home and further compliment your windows and walls. They cover a large part of your room and will be seen when people look through your windows, so you'll want attractive looking window treatments. While dark blinds may be appropriate for a men's den, this isn't what you'd want in a living room decorated in an elegant French theme. Whatever you do choose for your windows, make sure they blend well with the walls and floors.
So there you have it.
When guests look at your home, all these features will be acknowledged as part of the stylish decor, whether you realize it or not. If you go to a home decor display center or home decor store, you can compare styles and find the features that's just right for you and your home.
