For years we’ve been told that acne scars, sun spots, and other skin problems were going to be permanent. Using gallons of cover up or painful skin peels that may or may not work were options, but costly. But there’s a better answer – a 21st century answer. Using the fourth state of matter, plasma, to treat different skin conditions without actually touching the skin, your cosmetic surgeon is able to help improve the appearance of your skin in very little time.
How it works
First of all, plasma is gas in which atoms are stripped of electrons, or ionized. Things like lightning, the sun, and the Aurora Borealis all contain plasma. Portrait Plasma skin resurfacing uses plasma energy to produce results at the skin’s surface, as well as below it. Damaged, scarred, aged, and wrinkled layers of skin are removed and new collagen is stimulated to grow and replace the old skin tissue. This improves skin laxity and texture, as well as improves any discoloration you had prior to the skin treatment. And, best of all, it does all of this without surgery.

Candidates
Face it, once you’ve hit your 30s, your skin has seen better days. This is the decade lines begin to appear in the nasolabial folds and around the eyes. While you may have grown used to your acne scars by this point, you may also be ready to finally get rid of them once and for all so you don’t have to explain them again. Because Portrait Plasma is not a very aggressive treatment, but has the same results as some other more intrusive procedures, many people will choose this route. Good candidates usually include:
• Those seeking a clearer and cleaner complexion that will minimize enlarged pores
• Those with sun-damaged skin looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, tighten lax skin, and improve skin texture and tone
• Those considering chemical peels, laser surgery, a facelift, or other cosmetic surgical procedures
• Those who wish to repair photodamage or improve the appearance of age spots
If you are prone to scarring or have dark skin, speak with your cosmetic surgeon to find out if Portrait Plasma skin resurfacing is a good idea.
While the procedure is not a surgical procedure, per se, prior to your treatment, you may be given either a topical anesthetic or an injection of anesthesia. This depends on you, what your cosmetic surgeon decides, and is determined by the level of treatment you are going to receive. The six treatment options available depend on your skin condition and the kind of improvement/recovery time you want. All these options will be discussed with your cosmetic surgeon at the time of your consultation.
After your Portrait Plasma procedure, your skin will show dramatic improvement in seven to ten days. The tone and texture of your skin will show in reduced wrinkles at lower levels of treatment. At higher levels of treatment, deep wrinkles, overall tightening, and other aspects will show vast improvement. Continual improvement of your skin may continue for some time. Because of the changes made are done beyond the surface of the skin, the new collagen will continue to show where improvements have been made.
