Recalled Hydroxycut - courtesy FDA.gov

[Best Syndication News] The U.S. Food and Drug Aministration (FDA) issued a warning today for any consumer taking Hydroxycut brand of products to stop taking it immediately due to the potential risk of serious liver damage. The Hydroxycut products are manufacturered by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. from Oakville, Ontario but are distrbuted by the Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc. which is located in Blasdell, New York.

Iovate agreed to recall the Hydroxycut products from the marketplace after the FDA received 23 reports of serious health problems including jaundice and elevated liver enzymes. The problems suggest that a person could be at risk to develop liver injury and damage which could require an organ transplant. The FDA reported that one death has been associated with the Hydroxycut product which was due to liver failure.

Hydroxycut is a weight loss supplement that is advertised as burning fat and enhancing energy levels. Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia are not being included in this recall.

There are other health problems that has been reported from the use of the Hydroxycut products. They include seizures, cardiovascular disorders, and rhabdomyolysis.

The FDA said that liver injury was rare but did occur with the recommended does on the bottle of Hydroxycut. Symptoms of jaundice include yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes and brown colored urine. Other symptoms of liver related problems include nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.

Because of the risk, the FDA strongly urges consumers to stop taking Hydroxycut immediately to avoid any chance of developing a serious liver problem. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of liver damage you should contact a physician for further evaluation and treatment.
