After California Portland Cement Company announced its layoffs this morning, County Workforce Development Department’s Rapid Response Services Team began working with the company to ensure its employees are connected to the County’s services.
Workforce Development offers career counseling at its Employment Resource Centers, which includes assistance with resume writing, interview skills and job placement.
“CalPortland Cement’s curtailing of operations in Colton is another negative economic impact to our region,” Gonzales said. “The Colton plant has provided good-paying jobs to residents of Colton and the surrounding cities for more than 100 years. The company has also been a strong supporter of the community, making hundreds of thousands of dollars in charitable contributions to non-profit groups.
“I will strongly support the company’s efforts to re-open the plant and encourage the employees to avail themselves of the County’s services.”
