(Best Syndication News) The Pro-Wrestler and college football star, Steve Williams, aka “Dr. Death”, lost his battle with throat cancer on late Tuesday night. Friends, family and colleagues mourned his loss. “My condolences go out to Dr. Death (Steve Williams) family and friends. We lost a great one today!”, Kevin Nash said on his Twitter page.

Williams, a well-known professional wrestler in the 1980s and 1990s, was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2003 and underwent surgery in 2004 to remove a tumor. In 2005 he underwent surgery to remove a tumor along with his voice box and larynx. He has been cancer-free for 4 years.

Earlier this year friends got together to try to raise money for an artificial voice box, according to Denver Post. "I'm hoping by Christmas,” Williams said. “It would be a heck of a Christmas present.”

Williams, an all-conference guard under football coach Barry Switzer at Oklahoma University, had faith in God. "I knew my choice was either to live or to die," Williams said in 2008. "I decided I was going to fight. God became my tag-team partner."

Besides football, Williams was a national champion heavyweight wrestler at OU. Shortly after leaving college in 1982 he began a long career in Professional Wrestling.

On Twitter, Chris Jericho said of his friend: “God bless u Dr Death not only were u a tough bastard as Stu would say, but you were also a fighter and a true inspiration. Gambate!!”

He was a fighter, according to former Lakewood football coach Pete Levine. "Because of his physical presence and his demeanor, he could be frightening if you didn't know him… His battle with cancer was about as harrowing as any battle could get."
