(Best Syndication News) Some have described the atmosphere outside the capital over the weekend as a circus, but there were also some angry Americans who wanted their voice heard. A recent poll found that 44 percent will vote for a Republican and 39 will vote for a Democrat in November.

The Republican Party is back on track, but there is a hitch. The poll, which was conducted by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, found that the Tea Party could hurt Republicans. In 1992 Ross Perot was able to siphon-off Republican votes from George Bush Sr. which helped Bill Clinton win the Presidency.

The Tea Party movement is made up of conservative Republicans, for the most part. They advocate a limited government and other Libertarian ideals. Many believe the policies of Barack Obama are making the country worse.

While 49 percent said they didn’t have enough information to form an opinion about the Tea Party, 28 percent said they had a favorable view of the party while 23 percent didn’t. Only 13 percent of Americans say they are part of the movement, but most of those are Republicans.

In Texas none of the Tea Party candidates beat the incumbent in the last primary. But that was a primary. In a general election Republicans will be forced to face-off against Democrats who are united without a splinter movement.

Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute says the Tea Party could be a distraction. “The Tea Party could be a Republican dream - or a GOP nightmare,” Brown said. “Members could be a boon to the GOP if they are energized to support Republican candidates. But if the Tea Party were to run its own candidates for office, any votes its candidate received would to a very great extent be coming from the GOP column.”
