(Best Syndication News) - The fashions on the red carpet at the Academy Awards is a big deal and will be talked about for the best and worst dressed. Solid color gowns is the trend this year with simple cut lines that can be either sequined or plain. The blues are almost a navy color, there is silver grey, red, white and nude beige colors.

Best Dressed

Hillary Swanks dress had a graduating colors of dark to light grey feathers at the bottom of the dress that changed into all sequins from her upper thigh area all the way up to the strapless bodice.

Jennifer Lawrence wore a simple red dress that looked a lot like the cut of a swimsuit in the body portion. She didn't wear much jewels at all and kept her look very simple all the way around. She had the body to pull it off with all the curves in all the right places.

Hellen Mirren arrived in a medium gray dress with a scooping neck line and long ¾ length puffy sleeves. Her light gray short hairstyle was complementing her whole look as she looked elegant.

Some actresses gowns didn't have plunging necklines this year. Michelle Williams had a short sleeve with ample coverage with a white textured dress. The dress really brings your attention to her pretty face and her short bobbed bleached blonde hairstyle.

Reese Witherspoon wore a black dress that had white trim on top. It almost reminded you of a tuxedo look with this strapless gown.

Hailee Steinfeld is only 14 years old and is her first time at the Oscars. She wore a nude beige color dress that had sparkling highlights. She had her hair in an up-do and wore a matching headband to tie the look together.

Erin Andrews was dressed in a one shoulder silver sequined dress. She wore glittering earrings, bracelet, and ring to pull the glamorous outfit all together.

Amy Adams wore a sleeveless dark blue with a hint of violet sequined dress that had covered her up to her neck line. The color of the dress went well with her hair color and made her look super slim, but that is probably because she is that skinny. She also wore a green emerald gem necklace and matching bracelet valued at 1.35 million dollars said US Magazine. She used the colors well.

Halle Berry wore a nude beige strapless gown with a train. The train was with tulle fabric in a matching color and the bodice has sequins. The whole look was very elegant.

Worst Dressed

Nicole Kidman might have missed the mark on her gown choice this year. There was a lot of floral decarations around the mid section with wrapping in large sections. Since she is so tall it seemed to make her look larger than she needed to be.

Virginia Madsen was wearing a white and black gown that had way too much texture going on. The one shoulder top half was white down to the waist which was sectioned off by a belt then the heavily textured black went the rest of the way to the ground. I didn't flatter her figure.

Mandy Moore's dress will probably be much debated. Some might like it, but it was almost like the top half was neat and then they forgot to finish the bottom half. The gown was in the nude beige coloring and she had glitter sequins in a white that covered her bodice but as you go to the legs the sparkles kind of disappear.

Anne Hathaway showed up in a strapless red gown with gathered bunches of fabric on each side of the thigh area accented with large red fabric roses. The gown didn't look totally terrible, but I doubt women will try to copy this look.

Scarlett Johansson wore a muted fushia colored lace dress. She had a hair cut that looked very casual and maybe didn't fit the gown. The gown had the high neck line, but because the lace on the dress was almost too much as it distracted from the her face it didn't work for me. The dress almost makes me think of a table runner that was made into a dress. This could be a case of the dress wearing her instead of the other way around.
