Local Representative Takes Aim at Jobs

(Best Syndication News) Citing California’s high unemployment rate, Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) put forth HR 2295, the Workforce Investment Improvement Act, to assist those who are unemployed.

McKeon tells Best Syndication that the act is “fundamental to aiding in job creation and retention as it addresses the needs of the employer and the employee by seeking to adequately prepare job-seekers with the skills they need to succeed in an ever-changing job market.”

“Having over 14 million Americans currently unemployed and nearly 12% California unemployment has America in an extremely vulnerable position, which is why I consider the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act to be so pressing”, McKeon said.

The timing is good. Stimulus money for job creation is drying up in San Bernardino County. There were major cuts to the Economic Development Agency Department of Workforce Development program, which matched employees with employers.

County workforce development specialist Patricia Baltazar recently described a “results oriented” workforce program to the Pinon Hills Chamber of Commerce. She worked with various employers including Dr. Pepper and the Wal-Mart warehouse. The program was a hit with employers and godsend for those seeking a job.

McKeon is hoping that his HR 2295 will help Americans looking for work.

“The bill focuses on a results-oriented job training system that can effectively serve job seekers and workers in need of retraining and builds on Republican reforms to strengthen and improve programs and services under WIA, with the concurrent goals of putting Americans back to work and making the United States more competitive in the 21st century,” McKeon said.
