(Best Syndication News) - On today’s ‘The Dr. Oz Show,’ NY Times bestselling author Jim Karas shared tips to fight fatigue and be energized from his ‘The 7 Day Energy Surge’ book. Doctor Mehmet Oz starts this television segment by saying over two-thirds of American women are sleep deprived, and around 75 percent are stressed on a regular basis. The problem is that we seek out quick fixes for fatigue such as coffee, soda, and sugary snacks explained Doctor Oz.

Jim Karas is the author of the ‘The 7 Day Energy Surge’ book, which had become a NY times bestseller. He is also a trainer for celebrities. Karas said that fatigue comes from eating bad food, being dehydrated, and trying to pack too much into the day. His book offers ways to rebuild, which could help get people energized. Doctor Oz said that he knows some of the celebrities that Karas coached, and noticed that they have a lot of energy. Karas mentioned that he has coached Diane Sawyer.

Doctor Oz said that the brain fog continues throughout the day and asked Karas how could someone be more energized in only 7 days. Karas answered by saying that you want to go in and rebuild habits. By doing this, he explains, you begin to feel energized again.

The first step to becoming more energetic is to makeover your morning habits. Karas said that when the alarm goes off do not jump out of bed. Instead, he suggests doing the breathing into blackness exercise. The exercise involves covering your eyes with the palms of your hands. Next, massage the top of your forehead with your fingers. While doing this, inhale six times through the nose and breathe out through the mouth. This will help relieve stress first thing in the morning. Additionally, playing a wooden instrument to wake up will also help improve breathing. Doctor Oz said a harmonica would work well for this. Karas also said to make the room well lit in the morning by opening the curtains and turning on the lights.

The next step for the morning routine to becoming more energetic is to eat breakfast. Karas reminds us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the morning meal should never be skipped. Karas said that he loves the Muesli cereal. He makes this cereal with ½ cup uncooked rolled oats, ½ cup of 2 % milk, ½ TBSP ground flaxseed, Walnuts & almonds, and berries. Mix together everything except for the berries and refrigerate overnight. The next morning, add berries to the muesli cereal.

The next step to being full of energy throughout the day involves taking two vitamin supplements. Karas said that taking 400 mg of magnesium with 600 mg of calcium is important. He said that magnesium is critical for energy. The next supplement Karas recommended is called Tyrosine, which is an amino acid. He suggests taking 500 mg of Tyrosine three times each day. Karas said that tyrosine sometimes could not be produced enough when the body is under a lot of stress and that is why a supplement can be beneficial. Next, Karas and Doctor Oz demonstrate breaking the tyrosine capsule and pouring the contents on the tongue and then washing it down with water.

The next suggestion to improve alertness during the afternoon is to consumer wheat grass. Karas said that having an afternoon routine of eating either wheat grass powder or juice is helpful. Karas said if you are going to drink coffee, mix it half with coffee and half with low-fat milk. He is not a fan of fat free products. Doctor Oz agreed that some fat with the milk is good.

The next step to staying alert during the day is to get a good night sleep. Karas suggests listening to soothing music around 45 minutes before bedtime. Doctor Oz said a study found that folks who listened to music were able to improve their sleep. Doctor Oz said that the music should be in the background of the home. Karas also said to hydrate by drinking water before bedtime. Because you have drank water you will more than likely have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Keep the lights dim by having a night light to get you to the bathroom suggested Karas.

Doctor Oz said the energy boosting habits could help. He had a few exhausted women in the audience that participated with these energy-boosting habits for 24 hours. They all said they were more energetic and felt better the next day with the signs they held up.
