7.4 magnitude earthquake in Mexico Today - USGS

(Best Syndication News) - A large 7.4 magnitude earthquake let loose in Oaxaca, Mexico today at 12:02 PM (local time). The earthquake was followed by many aftershocks measuring between 5.0 to 5.3 magnitude. The US Geological Survey (USGS) received hundreds of reports of people in Mexico City who felt the tremor, which is about 200 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake.

The USGS recorded the location of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake at 16.662°N, 98.188°W at a depth of 12.4 miles. The earthquake was centered at 84 miles southwest of the nearest city of Huajuapan de Leon, Oaxaca, Mexico. The event was 100 miles west-southwest of the city of Oaxaca.

Hundreds of people reported to the USGS if they felt the earthquake and to what extent. There were widespread reports of people feeling the earthquake. Some reported strong to severe shaking, while many hundreds of miles away others reported it as a mild event. In Mexico city, most reported a moderate to strong earthquake, which meant there may have had been some light to moderate amounts of damage.
