General Motors recall Certain 2012 Chevrolet, GMC, and Yukon Vehicles for Steering Gear Repair

Car recall - BSN

(Best Syndication News) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that General Motors (GM) is recalling certain Chevrolet, GMC, and Yukon vehicles because the steering gear pitman shaft may fracture. The concern is that the steering gear might not have been correctly hardened. If the steer gear breaks, it could cause the driver to lose control of the steering, which could cause a crash.

Around 6,159 vehicles are involved and are from the 2012 model years of the Chevrolet Express, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Savana, and the Yukon XL Heavy Duty vehicles. Not all cars in this model year are involved.

GM will be notifying car owners of the recall on or around April 4, 2012. The owner will be able to take the vehicle to a GM dealership to get a free inspection and replacement of the steering gear pitman shaft if needed.
