(Best Syndication News) - A 30-year old New Zealand woman that drank 2 gallons of Coca-Cola daily died, and experts suspect that her habit contributed to her death.

Low potassium levels may have been a contributing factor. The lack of potassium could cause an irregular heartbeat, suggested pathologist, Dr. Dan Mornin. The soft drinks combined with poor nutrition and a heavy smoking habit may have been other problems that also contributed to her death. This was an extreme amount of soda to drink every day.

Drinking excessive amounts of water could also produce a similar result of death. In 2007, a California woman died after drinking too much water in an attempt to win a Nintendo Wii game console for her kids.

Sodas have been studied for their health risks. Sugared sodas have been one of the leading contributors to the amount of sugar consumed by Americans. Scientists suggest that the increased carbohydrate consumption has increased the number of people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. That does not make “diet” soda healthy, because a recent study points out that men and women who drank low-calorie or “diet” soda had a higher rate of chronic diseases and also a higher body mass index (BMI).

The same study from the Cleveland Clinic's Wellness Institute and Harvard University found that drinking either sugared or non-sugared soda on a regular basis increased a person’s stroke risk.
