(Best Syndication News) - The Board of Supervisors of San Bernardino County approved a $4.06 billion budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year this Friday. The county's fiscal year starts on July 1.

The 2012-2013 budget comes in $28.8 million less than the year before. The budget also sets aside $16.3 million for contingencies and reserves. The 2012-2013 budget also helps to avoid an anticipated $33.2 million shortfall.

Additionally, the Board of Supervisors saved $40.3 million with reductions in spending for new budget. Included in these savings are $11.8 million in cuts to department budgets, and cuts of $7.3 million in allocations to capital projects and an emergency radio system upgrade. Currently under negotiation with the labor union is $8.9 million in reductions.

There was approval to spend $2.3 million for improving the County General Plan and Development Code in attempts to improve business operations, which could help to increase employment opportunities. The outdated 800MHz public safety radio system was approved for $20 million to replace it with a modern one.

California's state budget has not yet been approved, and it may affect the results of the county's budget. The state offices warned the county that there could be a “substantial impact” for the county's budget, particularly in the locale of Human Services.
