Two Road Projects should help High Desert traffic flow

(Best Syndication News) San Bernardino County along with the town of Apple Valley has reached an agreement to re-pave Central Road and Joshua Road (see the map below). The county Public Works department will also repair and make improvements at Highland Road and the State Highway 18 (SH-18) near Lucerne Valley.

Andy Silva, the public information officer for 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, tells Best Syndication that the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved an agreement this week that will share the cost of repaving Central and Joshua Roads with Apple Valley. The two roads skirt along the two jurisdictional borders.

“This is an example of two jurisdictions working together to maintain an important route for our local citizens, while also making the most efficient use of taxpayers’ dollars by doing this as a single project,” Mitzelfelt said.

The county estimates that the project will cost $285,000. Apple Valley will pay 60 percent and the county will pay the rest for improvements made to Central Road. They will split the cost 50-50 for improvements made to Joshua Road. This works out to $115,600 for the county and $169,400 for the town.

This is a win-win for both parties. The county and the town share jurisdictions for the roads (see map below). Apple Valley will take the lead in the design and construction effort.

The Lucerne Valley project is expected to improve traffic flow at the intersection of SH-18 and Highland Road. This project is expected to cost $229,618 and should be completed by July 2012.

When completed traffic will be able to merge onto the highway better, according to Silva. Sully-Miller Contracting Company will do the work.

There will be traffic delays at both construction zones.
