Andy Griffith dies at home in North Carolina

(Best Syndication News) - Actor, Andy Griffith died today at his home in North Carolina. He was 86. The actor is most known for the 1960’s TV series, The Andy Griffith Show, and for the 1980’s and 90’s TV series Matlock.

In the 1950’s, Griffith started his entertainment career in music and was a regular on the Ed Sullivan Show and the Steve Allen Show. He also acted on Broadway and had acted in films before he became known for his role as Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show, which started airing in 1960 and ran through 1968.

Griffith formed his own production company in 1972 and made several films and TV series. In 1986 he produced and starred in the popular TV series, Matlock, which continued through 1995. Griffith won a People’s Choice award for his acting on this TV series.

His last major acting role was in 2009 in the film Play the Game.

The TV Land channel will be airing a marathon of The Andy Griffith Show. They will feature some of the most memorable episodes of the TV series. The marathon will be on Wednesday, July 4 between 8 am – 1 pm ET/PT, and on Saturday and Sunday, July 7 and 8, between 11 am to 8 pm ET/PT.
