(Best Syndication News) - Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 13 to begin construction of their first company-owned manufacturing plant in Augusta, Georgia. The plant is expected to cost $172 million to build, and the company will create 140 jobs once the facility is up and running.

The new jobs will require around 75 percent of the workforce to be skilled processing workers. This includes maintenance and engineering technicians, along with roasting operators, soluble process operators, and packaging operators. The management and administrative staff will make up the rest of the jobs.

The facility is expected to be completed in the early part of 2014. The location will bring jobs back to the US. Starbucks currently has the Starbucks VIA® Ready Brew, many of their ready-to-drink beverages, and the coffee base for their Frappuccino® drinks made outside of the US. The new Atlanta facility would produce these products.

Starbucks also has four other manufacturing locations in the US that are used for roasting the coffee beans employing over 830 workers. These plants are located in Kent, Washington; York, Pennsylvania; Sandy Run, South Carolina; and Carson Valley, Nevada.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Augusta plant, Starbucks announced that the company will invest $200,000 in local community programs in Atlanta.
