Peg Perego Stroller recall announced - Free Repair Kit

Peg Perego Strollers being recalled - CPSC

(Best Syndication News) - A voluntary recall was announced by Peg Perego USA Inc. because certain baby strollers they distributed have an entrapment and strangulation danger for the baby riding in it. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall, which involves around 223,000 baby strollers. The company is giving out a free repair kit to remedy the problem.

Two serious incidents occurred with these strollers. In 2004, a 6-month old baby boy died of strangulation from being entrapped between the tray and the seat of the stroller. In 2006, another 7-month old girl almost suffered the same fate. This prompted further investigation and the recall.

The risk for entrapment and strangulation is the highest with babies under 12 months of age who are not strapped in the stroller. If the child is not restrained with the harness they could slide through the seat bottom and their head and neck can become stuck in between the tray and the seat.

Two different models are involved in the recall. Peg Perego’s Venezia and Pliko-P3 models were manufactured between January 2004 and September 2007. The strollers were sold between January 2004 and September 2010 at retailers nationwide at a price of $350 (Pliko P-3 model) to $450 (Venezia model).

These models were around before the industry standard changed in January 2008 for the height requirements between the seat and the tray. The new standard requires that the tray be at a higher distance from the seat.

The strollers come in a variety of colors. The model numbers on the Pliko P-3 strollers are printed on the stroller seat. The Venezia stroller has the model number printed on the footboard. The model numbers are listed below.

Consumers who have the recalled strollers should not use them until the free repair kit is installed. To get the repair kit, consumers can contact Peg Perego toll-free at (888) 734-6020 anytime or by going to their website at www.PegPeregoUSA.com.
