(Best Syndication News) - Walmart announced that they have reached 100 rooftop solar panel installations in California. The 100th California Walmart store to have solar panels installed was the College Avenue store in San Diego.

Walmart said that they have an ideal goal of getting 100 percent of their energy needs supplied by renewable sources such as windmills and solar panels. Right now, each location with solar panel installations will generate between 10 to 30 percent of the locations total electricity needs.

Walmart said that each solar installation generates around 48 contract positions per site. Walmart is working with SolarCity for 70 of the 100 solar power systems. SolarCity started installing solar panels on Walmart rooftops in September 2010. SolarCity is also a California-based company that has hired-on 1,213 employees in response to the growing demand for the solar panel arrays being installed throughout the state.

Walmart estimates that these solar installations should generate up to 70 million kilowatt hours every year. According to an EPA calculator, that would be the same amount needed to provide electricity to 5,400 homes.

Switching over to renewable energy will also reduce 21,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year. The EPA estimates that number is equivalent to taking 4,100 cars off the roads.
