Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake shakes near Brawley in Southern California

(Best Syndication News) - This Sunday, residents in Brawley, California were shaken by a swarm of earthquakes with the largest tremor at a 5.5 magnitude rating. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the 5.5 magnitude earthquake happened this afternoon at 01:57:58 PM (local to the event).

The nearest city to the epicenter was Brawley, which is 3 miles away. The nearest Mexico city was Tijuana, Baja California, which was 92 miles away. The USGS said the exact location of the epicenter for the 5.5 magnitude earthquake was 33.024°N, 115.549°W. The depth was 5.6 miles.

Eight people from Brawley reported to the USGS that the shaking was very strong with moderate damage from the 5.5 magnitude event. The USGS received responses from people feeling the tremor as far away as Arizona. There were many responses from the San Diego area and as far away as Long Beach.

Aftershocks have been ongoing throughout the day. They ranged from 2.5 magnitude and up to 5.3 magnitude ratings.
