Rayovac Replacement Battery Pack Recall for Power Tools - Credit: CPSC.gov

(Best Syndication News) - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of an additional 65,300 Rayovac NI-CD and Rayovac NI-MH Cordless Tool Battery Packs because they could explode, which could potentially cause injury. This is an expanded recall from a prior recall by BatteriesPlus LLC back in December 2011, which involved around 111,800 units.

BatteriesPlus imported the recalled Rayovac battery packs. The company announced more product recalls after three more consumers reported the batteries exploding. One consumer had sustained an injury to their finger. The batteries were sold at BatteriesPlus retail stores nationwide and online at their website, baterriesplus.com. The batteries involved in this current recall were sold between June 2008 and July 2012 at a retail price of $60 - $70.

The battery packs being recalled have the RAYOVAC brand on them and were meant to be used as a replacement battery for cordless power tools. The battery has the part number starting with “CTL.” The words “RAYOVAC,” NI-CD" or "RAYOVAC," "NI-MH" along with the part number is printed in white letters on the unit. The batteries came in voltages between 2.4 and 18 volts and the shapes and sizes varied. The replacement batteries were designed to work in Black and Decker, Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, Lincoln, Milwaukee, Panasonic, Ryobi and Skil branded cordless tools.

Consumers who have the recalled battery packs should not use them. Instead, they are asked to take them out of the cordless tool and contact BatteriesPlus for instructions on returning the product to get a store credit. BatteriesPlus can be called toll-free at (877) 856-3232 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. More information is also available on the company’s website at 1.
