Planned Bridge Demolition prompts Full Closure of the 91 Freeway in Riverside Area

Stop light - BSN

(Best Syndication News) - Caltrans announced a full freeway closure scheduled for the 91 freeway at 14th street in Riverside during the nighttime starting on Monday, September 17, and going through the night of Thursday September 20, 2012. The 91 will close between 11 pm and 6 am each night so that the old bridge at 14th street can be demolished.

The full nighttime 91 freeway closure will cause delays, and Caltrans suggests planning an alternative route with extra travel time if needed. There will be detour signs posted in this area. Caltrans is recommending travelers use Interstate 10 Freeway and the 60 Freeway to get to and from the Inland Empire. State Route 76 is also another roadway that could be used to travel between South Riverside County and Orange County.

The removal of the old bridge will make way for construction of the new 14th street bridge. The bridge construction is part of six-mile-long, $232 million high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lane project that has been planned for State Route 91.

There will also be closures and delays around this area prior to the full freeway closure. On Friday, September 14, the 14th Street Bridge will be closed starting at 9 pm and will reopen with reduced lanes the next day at noon. The 14th Street on ramps and off ramps will also be closed at 11 pm on September 14 and will reopen at 8 am the next day. Caltrans plans to reduce the freeway to one lane each way on September 14th between 11 pm and 8 am.
