Microsoft introduces Windows 8 Keyboard with new Split Spacebar

Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard - Microsoft

(Best Syndication News) - Microsoft has created a new kind of computer keyboard that will be optimized to work with the Windows 8 operating system. In the 1990’s Microsoft introduced an extra key to the keyboard, one with the windows logo on it. It was a big deal then, but may not be used much today.

Now the software giant is shaking things up again. The new keyboard, the Sculpt Comfort Keyboard, will feature a split backspace key and a split spacebar key. This new keyboard is expected to provide a great innovation that can really improve typing speeds.

The Sculpt Comfort Keyboard has an ergonomic design. The spacebar is larger than the typical space-key and is split into two sections. The backspace button has been split to offer more backspace options. This is the first Microsoft keyboard to split the backspace and spacebar keys.

The company decided to incorporate these unique design features because of research. They found that 90 percent of typists use their right thumb to push the spacebar. The left hand isn’t being used for all the rest of the distance of the spacebar. The backspace key they found is the third most pushed key on the keyboard. The problem with pushing the backspace key is that it halts the typing process and slows typing speeds. The left spacebar can be used as an additional backspace key and therefore it could help improve typing speeds.

Additionally, the keyboard will be optimized to work with the latest Windows 8 operating system. There will be hot keys for Search, Share, Device, and Settings. There will also be a new Windows key.

The keyboard is a USB wireless device. Microsoft said that the Sculpt Comfort Keyboard would be available soon at their online store, and at participating retail locations. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) is $59.99.
