Reduced Calorie Cranberry Juice could help lower Blood Pressure

(Best Syndication News) - A study found that drinking low-calorie cranberry juice on a regular basis could reduce blood pressure numbers. The researchers presented their findings at the America Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Research 2012 Scientific Sessions. Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. funded the study.

The study involved participants being assigned to drink either a low-calorie cranberry juice or a placebo drink on a daily basis for an eight-week period. The researchers measured the participants blood pressure at the start of the study, then in the middle, and finally at the end of eight weeks.

The group who drank the cranberry juice had an average reduction from 121/73 mmHg down to 118/70 mmHg by the end of the eight week study. The placebo group did not show any reduction in blood pressure readings.

The researchers theorize that the cranberry contains antioxidants that might have been involved in the reduction of blood pressure. Other studies have found fruit, tea, and wine may contain antioxidants that reduce blood pressure numbers.
