6.2 Magnitude Earthquake rocks the Gulf of California Region Today

(Best Syndication News) - A sizeable 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook off the shores near La Paz, Mexico in the Gulf of California region today. The tremor occurred at 5:45 pm local to the event on September 25, 2012. The US Geological Survey reported this earthquake and several aftershocks in the region.

The location of the earthquake was at 24.835°North and 110.152°West at a depth of 6.3 miles. The nearest city, La Paz, was 47 miles southwest of the epicenter. La Paz, a getaway location for tourists, has a population estimated to be around 215,000.

No immediate reports of damage from the tremor was announced. Two people in La Paz reported to the USGS reporting system that they felt moderate shaking with very little damage. There was a few aftershocks that ranged between 4.0 to 4.8 magnitude.
