7.7 Magnitude Earthquake shakes off West Coast Island of Canada

Recent Earthquake Activity in Queen Charlotte Islands Region Canada 10-28-12 - USGS

(Best Syndication News) - A 7.7 magnitude earthquake shook off the west coast of Canada near the Queen Charlotte Islands Region on Saturday at 8:04 PM Pacific Time. The region has had many aftershock earthquakes, with several measuring over 5.0 magnitude.

The US Geological Survey reported that the 7.7 magnitude event occurred 86 miles south of Masset, Canada. The exact location of the tremor was at 52.769°N, 131.927°W. A tsunami warning announcement was issued for Hawaii by the NOAA’s West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center soon after the earthquake. The tsunami warning has since ended.

Around 50 aftershocks over 4.0 magnitude have been shaking the British Columbia island area Saturday and Sunday. The largest aftershock so far was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake, which occurred Sunday, October 28, 2012, at 11:54:21 AM at 52.633°N, 132.701°W.
