(Best Syndication News) - Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) announced their next-generation Solid State Device (SSD) DC S3700 Series of storage. The new storage offers fast read and write speeds and are available in 100, 200, 400, and 800 GB capacities.

Intel said that the SSD DC S3700 drives would work well for high-performance computing, as well as cloud-computing applications. The new technology alleviates bottlenecks for transmitting the information from several requests at one time.

Rob Crooke, Intel vice president and general manager for the Intel Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) Solutions Group said that data center professionals are challenged by the demand of serving up large amounts of data. The next-generation Intel SSD DC S3700 Series storage aims to help solve this problem.

The random read performance of the SSD DC S3700 devices are 4KB with up to 75,000 Input/Outputs Per Second (IOPS). The write speeds are at 4K with up to 36,000 IOPS.

The SSD devices also have full end-to-end data protection with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) capability. The SSD DC S3700 has an array of surplus flash memory used for data redundancy to protect against lost information.

Power consumption usage was improved from previous SSD drives. The average active power consumption is 6 watts - 650 milliwatts when the device is idle. The reduced energy consumption also generates less heat, which can further reduce electricity needed for air conditioning.

Intel announced that the new SSD DC S3700 Series will start to become available by the end of the year, but volume production will be available in the first quarter of 2013. The SSD storage comes in a 2.5-inch form factor for the 100, 200, 400, and 800 GB sizes. A 1.8-inch form factor will be available for the 200 GB and the 400 GB drives.
