(Best Syndication News) - Around 457,000 top-loading LG brand and Kenmore Elite brand washing machines are being voluntarily recalled for repair. The announcement was made today by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The drum that spins could come loose from the vibration of an unbalanced wash load. There is a risk for property damage and personal injury. LG Electronics Inc. announced the recall after receiving 343 reports of the washing machine vibrating beyond normal. Out of these reports, 187 reported minor property damage, and one minor injury was reported to the company.
The recalled washing machines were sold at Best Buy, Home Depot, Kmart, Sears, and other retailers nationwide. They were sold between April 2010 and December 2012 at a retail price between $899 and $1,099.
Three LG brand models (WT5001CW, WT5101HV, WT5101HW) and three Kenmore Elite brand models (29002, 29272, 29278) are on the list. All the washing machines are top-loading and were manufactured between February 2010 and November 2011. The washing machines came in either beige, white and graphite steel color. The model number and serial number are posted on a plate that is on the top back of the washing machine. The list of the serial numbers and model numbers involved are listed below.
Consumers who bought an LG model at stores other than Sears or Kmart should contact LG for a free repair. Customers who bought their LG or Kenmore Elite model at a Sears or Kmart should contact Sears to get a free in-home repair. Consumers who have noticed their machines shaking vigorously should not use the machine until it has been repaired. Additionally, consumers need to know that washing mattress pads, mattress cover, or other waterproof or water resistant fabrics could cause the load to become unbalanced.
