(Best Syndication News) - Hyundai announced today that their mid-size Sonata car broke the all-time record for yearly sales. This week, the Hyundai sold 225,961 units. Hyundai also saw record setting sales for their Elantra, Veloster, Genesis, and Equus models this year.

John Krafcik, president and CEO Hyundai Motor America, explained that the Sonata was redesigned in early 2010. The revisions included improved fuel-efficiency, roominess, safety, and durability. Krafcik said that the Sonata December 2012 retail sales are in third place behind Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.

The success was not from the fleet mix and rental car sales as they were in 2011. In 2011 there was a 11 percent fleet mix and in 2012 there was only a 9 percent mix. Only the Accord had a lower fleet mix.

The Sonata GLS model contributed to 52 percent of the sales through November, while the Sonata SE counted for only 18 percent of the sales for the same time. The Sonata Limited contributed to 22 percent of the sales through November. Additionally, eight percent of the sales were attributed to the Sonata Hybrid model.

Autodata reported that Sonata incentives through November 2012 were at the lowest levels for all top-ten best-selling mid-size sedans. The Sonata incentives were at $1,350 per vehicle, which is 40 percent below the industry average for mid-size sedans.
