LG Electronics taking pre-orders for 55-inch WRGB OLED TV
(Best Syndication News) - LG Electronics (LG) is taking pre-orders for their 55-inch WRGB Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TV in South Korea. The OLED TV will start being delivered in February 2013 to South Korea customers.
Over 1,400 retail stores selling LG TV sets in South Korea will be taking pre-orders for the 55EM9700 TV set on January 3, 2013. Deliveries should start the first week of February. The price is estimated at around US $10,000.
The announcement was made prior to this year’s 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). In 2012 LG was awarded the “Best of Show” at the CES for their preliminary design of the OLED TV.
LG is working quickly to ramp-up production of the OLED TV sets in order to get a head start on the new technology. DisplaySearch anticipates the OLED segment will grow to 7.2 million units sold by 2016.
Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, explained that OLED technology will change home entertainment much like color TV did 60 years ago.
LG’s OLED TV measures just 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) thick and weighs only 22 pounds. The display uses WRGB technology and provides a high-quality image. LG has a four-color-pixel system with a white sub-pixel that works with traditional red, blue, green picture displays, which helps display color optimally. The new TV set also has a color refiner and an infinite contrast ratio.
