Peace Rally in Wrightwood California Draws Forty Participants As Protests Around The Country Mark End of Forth Year of War in Iraq

(Best Syndication) The Tri Community Alliance For Community Action held a peace rally in Wrightwood on Sunday. There were approximately 40 participants organized by Michael Urman, Joan McCandless and Scott Jodice.

The speakers, including Michael gave their reasoning for ending the U.S. involvement in Iraq. The Alliance urges “Americans to wage peace and work to end wars and bring our troops home now.”

There have been peace rallies all around the country this weekend as Monday marks the forth year since the invasion of Iraq. On Saturday there were tens of thousands of protesters in Washington DC. In Oakland California there was an estimated 30,000 war protestors.

Joan McCandless told me that at a 2003 peace rally before the war, there were over 125 participants. This year the marchers started at the top of Park Drive in Wrightwood and traveled down the street. They crossed Highway 2 and walked to the Post Office where Michael, Joan and others including Liz Wolf Spada spoke. Spada’s son Josh is an independent journalist jailed for not revealing a source. This story was featured in a recent PBS Frontline documentary segment about journalism today.

Spada said that the freedom of the press died in 1972. We will have an exclusive video taped interview with Liz Wolf Spada in a future report soon. She will describe her son’s situation and how “journalists have no protection under Federal Law.”
