(Best Syndication News) - Researchers from Italy and Spain found that strawberry extract protected skin cell cultures when exposed to ultraviolet radiation (UVA) rays. The strawberry extract has potential to be used as a topical sunscreen cream. The results of the study of strawberry extract and protection from UVA rays was published in the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry.

Maurizio Battino, researcher at the Università Politecnica delle Marche in Italy and lead author said to SINC that their study verifies that strawberry extract protects against UVA rays from damaging skin cells.

(Best Syndication News) - A study found that older adults who had low levels of vitamin D could have an increased risk of death. The risk for death was even more pronounced in elderly people who were frail and had a vitamin D deficiency. The study results were published online with the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The study found a 30 percent greater risk of death for those with the lowest level of vitamin D compared to those who had higher levels. The frail people had over double the risk of death compared to those who were not frail. The frail adults with the lowest levels of vitamin D had triple the risk of death compared to those who were not frail and had the higher amounts of vitamin D.

High dietary intake of Salt takes out Calcium from the Body

(Best Syndication News) - Sodium takes calcium along with it when leaving the body, explained University of Alberta researchers. Scientists found the molecule which regulates both the sodium and the calcium levels in the body. A diet that is continually high in salt could create an increased risk for developing kidney stones and osteoporosis. The study findings were published in the peer-reviewed journal American Journal of Physiology – Renal Physiology.

Using animals, the principal investigator Todd Alexander, a Faculty member of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and his team investigated the link between sodium and calcium levels in the body. The researchers found that the same molecule regulates sodium and calcium in the body.

Adults might gain Temporary Muscle Strength with Caffeine Consumption

(Best Syndication News) - A study found that the adult mice improved muscle strength the best when given caffeine. The researchers suggest that older adults might also get a boost in muscle strength when consuming caffeine. The study results will be presented on June 30, 2012 at the Society for Experimental Biology meeting.

Researchers from Coventry University investigated muscle changes when mice consumed caffeine. They tested mice of all ages and found that adults in their prime had the biggest boost in strength from caffeine consumption. The older mice did not have as big of a boost in strength from consuming caffeine. The youngest mice showed the least strength improvement from consuming caffeine.

Men with reduced DHEA Steroid Levels at a higher Risk for Heart Disease

(Best Syndication News) - A study found that elderly men who had low levels of natural steroid hormones were at a higher chance for developing cardiovascular disease. The researchers presented their findings this Saturday at The Endocrine Society's 94th Annual Meeting, which is being held in Houston, Texas.

Dehydroephiandrosterone (DHEA) is the steroid that was studied. The hormone is secreted by the adrenal gland. DHEA-S, the sulfated form, floats through the blood and is converted in other tissues and is turned into estrogen and testosterone hormones.
