Online Holiday Sales increase over Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday

(Best Syndication News) - While many Americans opted to go shopping at traditional brick-and-mortar stores last week, the number of people shopping online during Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday is increasing. U.S. retail e-commerce spending for the first 23 days of November totaled $13.7 billion, according to report by comScore (NASDAQ:SCOR). The National Retail Federation also found a trend in online shopping during this holiday weekend.

On Black Friday, online shoppers spent 1.042 billion, comScore found. This was a 26 percent increase in spending compared to Black Friday 2011. Online Thanksgiving Day sales increased 26 percent compared to the previous year's figures. Put side-by-side, online Thanksgiving Day sales totaled only $633 million, much smaller than Black Friday sales.

The Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) awarded the first-ever SEAD Global Efficiency Medal to Samsung and LG for some of their HDTV sets.

SEAD is an initiative to encourage governments and the private sector to develop and deploy energy efficient products. On their website, SEAD states that they were first introduced at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - a December 2009 conference held in Copenhagen - by U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and Indian Environmental Minister Jairam Ramesh.

Unfortunately, Cyber Monday is also an opportunity for online thieves to steal personal information from consumers.

Identity theft is a real concern. In 2010, around 11.1 million American adults were victims of identity theft, according to the 2012 Identity Fraud Survey Report (Javelin Strategy & Research). The average time spent clearing up identity theft is estimated to be around 330 hours.

Hostess Brands closing down Operations

(Best Syndication News) - Hostess Brands Inc. announced that they would be seeking approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to close their business and liquidate their assets. The liquidation would involve selling off their iconic brands and facilities. The company announced that the bakery operations at the various plants will stop. However, the company will continue to operate Hostess Brand retail stores for several days after November 16, 2012 to sell products that have already been baked.

Only four days earlier, on November 12, Hostess Brands closed three plants because of a nationwide strike initiated by the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM). The company warned workers that if they did not return to normal production by 5 p.m. EST on November 15, that they would be forced to liquidate their business. On the night of November 15, the company decided that not enough of their employees returned to work.

American Honda Generator Recall announced for possible Fuel Leak

(Best Syndication News) - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of American Honda gas powered portable generators because the fuel hose can leak. If the generator leaks fuel, it could start a fire. The company is offering a free repair and inspection to fix this potential problem.

Honda recalled the generators after becoming aware of four incidents that involved fuel leaks. No reports of fire or injuries were reported.
