6.3 Magnitude Earthquake shakes offshore of Southern California Coast

(Best Syndication News) - A 6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the Pacific Coast near the boarder of California and Mexico. The quake occurred on December 14, 2012 at 2:36:02 a.m. (local time to the event). The sizeable earthquake was initially recorded as a 6.4 magnitude, but was later downgraded to a 6.3 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the event was located at 31.213°N, 119.560°W. The USGS explained that the earthquake came from normal fault movement of the Pacific plate in the oceanic lithosphere. The focus of the earthquake was 7.0 miles deep. This earthquake was not associated with San Andreas Fault system which experts predict is overdue for a sizeable tremor.

CalTrans announces Full Nightime Closure of the 91 Freeway in Riverside

(Best Syndication News) – Night-time commuters will be facing a full freeway closure of State Route 91 at 14th street in Riverside later this month. Caltrans announced that the closure will begin on Monday, December 17, 2012 starting at midnight and go through Friday December 21, 2012. The hours of closure will be between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The full freeway closure is to allow for construction workers to complete falsework for the new 14th Street Bridge. During the closures, motorists will need to follow detour signs or find an alternative route. Additionally, commuters will need to add extra time for travel delays.

Three recently elected San Bernardino County Supervisors sworn into Office

(Best Syndication News) - Three recently elected San Bernardino County Supervisors were sworn into office this week. The supervisors included Josie Gonzales, Robert A. Lovingood and James C. Ramos. All three elected officials will be serving the county for the next four years.

Supervisor Gonzales will continue to represent the Fifth District. She has been on the board since 2004, and with her re-election, she will continue her service for the cities of San Bernardino, Colton, Rialto, and Fontana. Additionally, Gonzales serves the unincorporated communities of Muscoy and Bloomington.

Trends in California Health Insurance Coverage

(Best Syndication News) - A new report from the California HealthCare Foundation found that one out of every 10 children was uninsured; over 1.1 million children in California were uninsured in 2011. The proportion of uninsured children is higher that the nation’s rate. The report came from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) and Diringer and Associates.

The report also found that more children had public health insurance with fewer of them getting coverage from their parents’ employer. The California children's health insurance program, Healthy Families, has run into problems over the last three years because of budget cuts funding issues. There was a decline in enrollment for Healthy Families.

Nevada has the highest proportion of children that are uninsured, while Massachusetts has the lowest proportion. In California, the rate of uninsured children is more than the national average and more than in most states.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations coming to California

(Best Syndication News) - NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG) announced today that they have been cleared to move forward to build over 200 electric vehicle charging stations throughout California. The charging stations will be located in the urban areas of San Francisco Bay, the San Joaquin Valley, the Los Angeles Basin, and San Diego County.

The company said that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the agreement between the California Public Utilities Commission and NRG. The charging stations, dubbed eVgo Freedoms, can now move forward. NRG hopes to open their first eVgo locations in early 2013.
