Multi-Million Dollar Verdict Awarded for Catastrophic Highway 138 Accident

(Best Syndication News) - Today, a San Bernardino jury awarded David Evans and his wife over $31.5 million for an accident that occurred on highway 138 on April 29, 2009. The responsibility for the accident was 85 percent the driver that hit David Evans and the remaining 15 percent of the responsibility went to Caltrans.

There have been at least ten other accidents that happened at Highway 138 and Mountain Road. The California Highway Patrol shared this information during the trial. The other driver was making an illegal left hand turn at Mountain Road.

Median Home Price in Southern California reaches $300K - San Bernardino County values increased the most

(Best Syndication News) - Housing prices have increased, and so have the number of homes sold in Southern California compared to the year-over-year (YOY) survey by DataQuick. The median home price increased in June 2012 to $300,000, which is up 5.3 percent from the June 2011 average price of $285,000.

Comparing May 2012 to June 2012 there was a 1.7 percent increase in the median home price, which was only $295,000 the month before.

There was also an increase of 7.5 percent in the number of homes sold. In June 2011 there were 20,532 homes sold, and in June 2012 there were 22,075 homes sold.

I-15 Freeway Closures to affect Nighttime Hesperia Traffic

(Best Syndication News) - The City of Hesperia announced the full closure of the I-15 Freeway. The closure is scheduled for July 23 through July 26 to accommodate the new La Mesa & Nisqualli Interchange Project.

The projects will create ramps to connect the I-15 to La Mesa Road on the west side of the freeway and Nisqualli Road located on the east side. The additional overpass will help relieve the heavy traffic on Bear Valley Road.

California - Earthquakes shake near Fort Bragg and Twentynine Palms Today

(Best Syndication News) - Two minor earthquakes shook during the early morning in Northern and Southern California today. A 4.3 magnitude earthquake shook near Fort Bragg in Northern California. Another 3.3 magnitude earthquake occurred near Twentynine Palms, which is located in the low desert region of Southern California.

The Fort Bragg earthquake was at 5:48 a.m. this Sunday morning, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The 4.2 magnitude earthquake was reported by residents in the area as having light shaking with no damage. The USGS CISN Shakemap suggested a moderate tremor with very light damage potential. The earthquake was located 2 miles north-northwest of Fort Bragg, California. The next nearest city was Ukiah, which was 40 miles away from the epicenter.

Romaine Lettuce Recall announced - Sold at Vons and Pavilions Stores in California and Nevada

(Best Syndication News) - The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the voluntary recall of 19 cases of bulk Romaine lettuce that was sold at California and Nevada Vons and Pavilions stores because the produce could be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Romaine lettuce was sold in the bulk produce bins between July 2, 2012 and July 4, 2012 at the stores listed above. The lettuce head has a red twist tie that has the word “Safeway” printed on it. The bulk packs of the Romaine lettuce came from Pacific International Marketing with 15 heads in each box. They all had the code 12EASROM182. All other Romaine lettuce heads, such as carton or bagged packages, are safe to eat and are not included in the recall.
